Litmus Films was established in 2000 as an independent television documentary production company and consultancy.
Litmus has produced more than 50 broadcast documentaries and news features from all over the world, for clients including BBC, NHK and ABC Australia. Topics have been diverse, from Arctic Tamils to Chessboxing,zero-carbon architects and the Budapest Children's Railway, but recurring themes are music, education, the environment, disability and displaced minorities. Locations have principally been in Europe, but have included Mongolia and Central America.
Litmus' approach is generally observational, using apparently obscure means to reveal universal themes. Characters are typically unsung heroes, whose passions bring the stories of society's hidden tribes to a general audience.
Based in the UK, Litmus also does broadcast consultancy and documentary teaching, specializing in China and Japan.
