True Tales of the Unexpected
About Litmus Films
Litmus Films is an independent television production company and broadcast consultancy.
Established in 2000, Litmus has produced more than 50 broadcast documentaries and news features from around the world for international clients including BBC, NHK, Sky & APTN.
Litmus documentaries cover a diverse and broad range, from The Mongolian Navy to Chessboxing via a substantial ukulele-related oeuvre, thanks to its exclusive access to The Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain. Other recurring Litmus themes are the environment, education and social inclusiveness. Our environmental films focus on sustainability, eco-building, and zero-carbon architecture. Litmus' educational films feature risk benefit and the pedagogical and personal development benefits of giving children real responsibility, particularly via outdoor learning, such as the award-winning Arctic Outdoor Preschool. Our films about inclusiveness include disability and marginalised social groups, particularly immigrant and ethnic minorities.
Litmus' style is generally observational, using apparently obscure means to reveal universal themes. Characters are typically unsung heroes, whose passions bring the stories of society's hidden tribes to a general audience. Based in the UK, Litmus has filmed from Australia to the Arctic, and is a China and Japan specialist. Litmus has recently embraced crowdfunding, producing two of the UK's top ten most crowdfunded documentaries, The Ukes Down Under and The Ukes In America.
